Before revamping their four thousand page web site, the Hong Kong Tourism Board engaged Ion Global to perform user testing with visitors at their tourist information centres in Hong Kong. In order to accommodate the Tourism Board's requirement to test non-resident visitors at the lowest cost possible, Ion Global proposed a non-traditional form of participant recruitment.
To gather data for the preparation of testing materials, Ion Global determined what information was of most interest to site visitors via a mini-survey on the Tourism Board web site. Based on the results of the survey, Ion Global prepared customised testing tasks for visitors to each of four test web sites.
Ion Global's test moderators also performed on-site walk-by usability testing at visitor centres to recruit tourists from Taiwan, mainland China, the United States and other English-speaking countries to test four separate Hong Kong Tourism Board web sites. The tests were conducted in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
