Ion Global Partners with United Commercial Bank to Launch New Banking Web Site

Ion Global and United Commercial Bank, a subsidiary of UCBH Holdings Inc., today unveiled a new web site, www.ibankunited.com . Designed by Ion Global's San Francisco office, the site features a comprehensive offering of online banking information and services in both English and Chinese, as well as some additional content in Spanish.

"United Commercial Bank offers a comprehensive set of banking services for a multicultural clientele, and we wanted our web site to be more useful for our current customers and better promote our products and services," said Eleanor Chang, senior vice president and director of marketing for United Commercial Bank. "It was important for us to work with a partner like Ion Global, who not only understood cultural sensitivities but were also experts in user-centric web design, information architecture and visual design. We were able to leverage Ion Global's experience in creating award-winning, global web sites to offer a solution that makes it easier for our diverse audience to get the information and services they want."

In addition to a visual redesign, Ion Global was tasked with developing a flagship site that would deliver an overall better user experience by re-organizing the content and site functionality in a way that would allow site visitors to navigate and find information with greater ease. In addition, the site now better highlights the bank's personal, commercial and business banking offerings as well as investment services, special promotions and financial information - all within a package which reflects the organization's rich heritage.

"In the past five years of web site redesigns, clients are paying ever more attention to the overall user experience -- the 'usability' of their sites -- and not just their visual appeal," said Melanie Lowe, senior manager at Ion Global. "To create a cost-effective and relevant solution for United Commercial Bank, we needed to take into account the usability issues for the bank's ethnically diverse customer base and build an information architecture that would be scaleable and useful across distinct audiences. By focusing on the user experience, we were able to create a multicultural web site that fulfills the goals of both the bank and its customers."

United Commercial Bank's new web site, www.ibankunited.com , replaces its previous site, which featured general Internet portal services, such as news, weather, traveling and shopping in addition to some banking options. By tapping into Ion Global's expertise in user-centric web site design and information architecture, the bank was able to re-invent its site to better address the overall online banking needs of its customers and showcase its banking products and services. Over the coming months, the bank will also introduce new web sites for its holding company, UCBH, and its Investment Services division, UCBIS, also designed by Ion Global to be part of a family of UCB web sites.
