CDC Corporation Signs Agreement to Sell Ion Global to Aegis Group

CDC Corporation , focused on global enterprise software and New Media, today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to sell Ion Global, its interactive marketing services business unit, to Aegis Group plc., the London-listed media communications and market research group. Ion Global will become part of Isobar , Aegis' global digital agency network, upon completion of the deal.

"This is a positive move for both parent companies," said Wei-Tai Kwok, Managing Director of Ion Global in San Francisco. "It frees up working capital for CDC and at the same time bolsters a fast growing Isobar network with additional world-class digital businesses with a proven track record." Kwok added, "We are excited about the opportunities that will grow out of this new relationship."

  • Ion Global in Hong Kong was established in 1995 and provides services in the areas of web strategy, interactive marketing, site construction, and software customisation. The business will be rebranded as wwwins Consulting, Isobar's award-winning Greater China agency, with the existing management, led by Marcus Crowley.
  • Ion Global's largest business is in Seoul and was established in 1998. Its services cover web strategy, interactive marketing, site construction, mobile applications, device user interface and graphical user interface consulting and design. Korea has the highest broadband connectivity in the world and is at the forefront of mobile technology development. Ion Global Korea is a world leader in mobile user experience and user interfaces; it will retain the Ion Global name. The operation will continue under the leadership of SunYoung Lee and her team.
  • Ion Global in San Francisco will be merged with Molecular, Isobar's successful U.S. digital consulting arm, headquartered in Boston with offices in New York. Both businesses specialise in Internet consulting and user experience offerings. The business will be rebranded as Molecular and will establish a powerful West Coast presence. The office will continue to be led by Ion Global MD Wei-Tai Kwok.
